From the Archives: Pillars of both the PT6 engine and P&WC's legacy



The year is 1963, and Elvie Smith, Thor Stephenson and R.D. Richmond are celebrating a week to remember. Just days after the first production PT6 moved off the assembly line at Plant 1, the engine was officially certified by both the Canadian Department of Transport and the US Federal Aviation Agency. At the time, seven manufacturers in four countries had the PT6 on order for eight different aircraft and helicopters. Here we see the three pioneers in conversation at the first production engine ceremony.
